Monday was another day for our groups to work on the Wednesday challenge so we then got into our groups and derek had brought the supplies for our first text. It was with straws. we had tested it out and it didnt work out we had been told by dr. neat that we cant combine them so that idea was no longer available.
Today was a great day, it was my birthday and I was turning 14. As we got into groups we had discussed more ideas. Some of them were great for a bridge but we couldnt use them they had included: legos, straws, toothpicks, and qeutips.
The next day we had discussed more ideas and then we had fiannly came up with a great idea and that was to use paper bowls. At first I didnt think that it was going to work but then as we began to draw it out and make a sketch up it then made sense and we then used that as our idea.
It was fiannly the day of the competiton. But when we got there Derek had a better idea with blocks and it worked way better but we had to rush to get our materials assembled so that we will be able to qualify. It was a regular friday, Mr. Wiltons had come and jpl had presented and he had gave his advice and then went to talk to dr.neato to talk about the improvements. I was multi-tasking with working on my website and listening at the same time.
Monday was a pretty cool day because we got more practice and learned some more things on sketchup. One of the things that we did was make a stairway to heaven the picture of what it looks like is below.
Tuesday was a lot harder than all the other days because we were taught a multistep process to create a rounded effect to a corner on a rectanglular block to give an object more likiness or a more realistic appearance. I struggled at the start but i then started to get the mechanics of the curve effect that I would without a doubt have a hard time with it again when using the effect on a model.
Our Wednesday challenge for today was to create a structure made out of cards and make it is as high as can be. Our group had a hard time putting together our cards. our design was complicated and it was hard stack up. It kept on falling every time. We eventualy got something going but we werent able to stack more because time ran out. Card House Competition Results
To continue the week of sketch up models Dr.Neato got inspiration from yesterday's Wednesday Challenge by basing today's lesson on the curvature of a card's edge and the measurements of each side. To begin the sketch up of the card I hard started by making the outline of the card by making the mesurments exact and then I used the push and pull tool raise my card up to the right size.
It was once againg friday and the jpl group had showed off their design again and Mr. wilton had again given his insight and advice to the jpl advice. I had grabed my laptop and began to multi-task again. I had added things to my website like pictures and wednesday challenge forms.
Monday had started off with a challenge to make a sketch up of a pencil. So we were given a pencil and instructed to create a model of it on sketch up. We had to make it as accurate as possible all the way down to the lead in the center. What I had done to start of was to create a hexagon and then use the push pull tool to raise it to the size I wanted for the pencil. I then added the eraser.
Tuesday was normal day because it was a day for people to catch up on their websites or sketchups. I had used that time wisely to insert picture, wednesday challenge forms and more.
Wednesday had a weird wednesday challenge because of the assignment we had. For this assignment we were allowed to choose our own partners but the class got crazy because one kid had an idea to make one big group so that everyone can get an A but some people didnt like that idea so they created their own groups.
Thursday was pretty much a continuation of yesterday crazyness everybody was doing different things and that had led to our loss must of us did do work but some of them had chose not to at all. Triangle Wednesday Challenge Form
Today we went over the wednesday challenge and the websites. The website grades aren't up yet but they should be up by tomorrow. We went over every bad and good of each 5 groups. Our group MegaForce got 4th. The whole period was spent in doing that.
Today is Tuesday and I did nothing but work on my website. The rest of the class also did entries today for the whole day. I had worked on wednesday challenge forms pictures for my website and anything that could help improve my website.
This Wednesday we have a festive wednesday challenge. We were given 10 candy corn and two sheets of paper. We had to find out how many candy corn fit in one paper while they are standing upright. There were no rules Candy Corn Wednesday Challenge Form
Today we worked on our lego blocks again. I had to start over. My lego block was red. We had to make it hollow as well. I finished with a lot of time left. I didn't know what to do since my website was fully updated.
Today is Friday and we had to listen to the JPL groups. For two of the groups we were inside and for the others we were in the shop. We first saw the Sketchup of the Trash Truck Invention. Then we saw the vacuum Invention. It didn't work great, until they got suggestions. After we went into the shop and saw the Kevin Arm it wasn't as fast as it was supposed to be but it didn't work great. We also saw Cole's Invention. We didn't see it work but we saw it all designed.
